Concerns in NZ about Pasifika infant deaths

From , 6:01 am on 4 December 2021

Pasifika health specialists in New Zealand are expressing concern at the number of Pacific infants dying from Sudden Unexplained Deaths in Infancy - or SUDI.

My Baby's Village, an initiative by the Pacific Infant Care Collective to help parents of newborns, says there's been a spike in unexplained deaths among infants in Auckland over the past two years.

Typically, about half of these are in Pasifika families.

Moana Research chief executive, Jacinta Fa'alili-Fidow, told Don Wiseman more about My Baby's Village.

Hauora Tairāwhiti District Health Board figures show a five percentage point decrease in infants being vaccinated at 8 months from April to May.
