COP26: World leaders urged to prioritise survival

The head of the Pacific's main regional scientific body says world leader's at COP26 need to prioritize the survival of humanity over their national economic interests.

Ambitious emissions reduction targets are needed from all countries in order to keep the 1.5 degrees, net zero by 2050 target alive.

Because of global travel restrictions amid the Covid-19 pandemic the Pacific presence in Glasgow is diminished.

But the Director General of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme, Kosi Latu, says the region is nevertheless presenting a strong and united voice.

He joins me now.
