10,000 pairs of shoes donated to children in the Pacific

An Auckland man has donated 10,000 pairs of shoes to children in the Pacific.

Frazer Mataitonga has been continuing the charitable work that his mother used to carry out in Tonga.

Together with his brother and sister, they've set up the Akanesi Mataitonga Trust in her memory.

Frazer Mataitonga was approached by Bobux NZ who had heard about the charity work Mataitonga and his siblings conducts for the Pacific.

Bobux provide quality leather shoes, boots and sandals for children and have been doing so for 30 years. They donated the shoes to Mataitonga and requested he organise the shipping of the goods to the region.

And shoes are just the beginning, the trust have donated hospital beds, medical supplies and Covid-19 testing machine, helped rebuild schools and renovate houses.

Mr Mataitonga told RNZ that he wanted his mother's memory to live on through the donations to the Pacific.
