Pacific Islands Forum marks 50 years of regional cooperation

From , 6:02 am on 6 August 2021

This week marks the 50th anniversary of the Pacific's regional government body, the Pacific Islands' Forum.

The secretariat looks to promote regional interests through cooperation between governments, collaboration with international agencies, and by representing the interests of its members.

The original Forum leaders first met in 1971, and member countries now include Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

Leaders are meeting on Friday for the 51st time, virtually, to talk about issues facing the region.

Dominic Godfrey is with me now, what's likely to be top of the agenda?
