More data on Pacific tuna needed to counter climate impacts

From , 6:00 am on 6 August 2021

Fisheries experts say more accurate and detailed knowledge of Pacific tuna stocks is needed to ensure the ongoing sustainability of the resource.

That is according to a recently released study - Warming Waters Threaten Tuna-Dependent Economies in the Pacific - which was carried out by Conservation International and a consortium of technical agencies.

The research found that, if global warming continues unabated, within 30 years the tuna catch will likely decline by 20 percent in the waters of Pacific countries.

In this fifth installment of our exclusive panel we are joined by experts from some of the organisations who took part in the study.  Here they are again introducing themselves.
