Pasifika more likely to be hospitalised for Covid-19 - Study

Pasifika peoples have the single highest risk of hospitalisation for Covid-19 in New Zealand - with 3 times greater odds of hospitalisation than any other ethnic group.

Maori follow closely behind at 2.5 times greater odds.

That's from an article just released in the New Zealand Medical Journal, which analysed Covid cases up to September last year.

It's authors are adding to calls for healthcare system reform, saying structural inequities and systemic racism are allowing Maori and Pasifika communities to suffer a much worse health burden from Covid-19.
