Akld church overstayers afraid to come forward to immigration

From , 5:02 am on 26 January 2021

Overstayers from a Tongan church community in Auckland are afraid to file a complaint about a New Zealand residency scheme in case they're deported back to their homeland.

Tongan lawyer Nalesoni Tupou has come across more than 100 Tongans who have been promised residency for cash by two men who are not authorised immigration agents.

The Immigration Adviser's Authority are investigating the scheme, but for Mr Tupou wants security for the families promised residency.

Sela Jane Hopgood reports.
