Tonga Govt shares growers frustrations at failed watermelon shipment

From , 5:00 am on 9 December 2020

The Ministry of Agriculture in Tonga says its shares the frustration of watermelon growers over the cancellation over the weekend of the first shipment watermelons to New Zealand since the announcement of a temporary approval permit was granted last week after a two month temporary ban.

Local media have reported that the trucking companies assigned to transport the melons to the wharf in Tongatapu didn't arrive and it's the responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture.

But as our reporter Sela Jane Hopgood shares with me, the Ministry have told RNZ Pacific that's not the case.
