The race to be the new Pacific Forum head

From , 6:02 am on 12 October 2020

The leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum have to make a decision soon on who should be the next secretary general.

The current secretary general, Dame Meg Taylor, is due to retire after six years in January.

The matter would normally have been resolved at the forum's annual summit - but that was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic, with host Vanuatu closing its borders.

There are five people lining up for the job: former Cook Islands prime minister Henry Puna, Marshall Islands diplomat Gerald Zackios, Solomon Islands diplomat Jimmy Rodgers, Fiji politician Ratu Inoke Kubuabola and Tongan economist Amelia Kinahoi Siamomua.
