Samoa's parliament has passed amendments to the country's Electoral Act ending months of controversy over discrepancies in the legislation.

This centred on language in the Act that would have effectively prevented people in redrawn constituencies from standing in the national election next year.

Another important amendment also enables candidates to seek a judicial review of decisions made by the electoral commissioner.

The sitting also saw the swearing in of Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt who returns to parliament after winning a by-election in his Gagaifomauga no.3 constituency.
