Fiji PM slammed over broadcast intervention

A Fiji government directive to stop the broadcast of a religious debate has been criticised heavily by church leaders in the country and the region.

Two weeks ago, Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama ordered various broadcasters to stop airing the debates between the leader of a self-proclaimed "spiritual movement" and representatives of Christian organisations in the country.

In the debates, the unorthodox theological views of the movement are being challenged by representatives from mainstream christian churches.

Mr Bainimarama said he was concerned the content of the discussions taking place would confuse religious groups.

But as Christine Rovoi reports, the prime minister is not the only person under scrutiny.
