Vaccine trial move tests PNG's relationship with China

Papua New Guinea's relationship with China is being tested after dozens of its workers came to PNG having been used in a Covid-19 vaccination trial.

The China state-owned company running the Ramu Nickel mine in PNG revealed last week it had vaccinated 48 Chinese employees against Covid-19 in a trial.

PNG's government, which says it was not informed in advance, responded by blocking the next flight of Chinese workers to PNG.

PNG is already struggling with a surge in confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

As testing efforts swing into action around the mine, PNG's Health Minister Jelta Wong told Johnny Blades PNG is seeking answers from Beijing.
