The co-head of Auckland University's School of Māori Studies and Pacific Studies is urging Pacific people to check in on their loved ones during the current lockdown.
In a 2013 suicide report in New Zealand, Pacific people were less likely to have accessed mental health services than people from other ethnic groups in the year before they died by suicide.
Dr Jemaima Tiatia-Seath who specialises in suicide prevention says in her line of work, checking in on each other once they've lost a loved one to suicide is important.
