All Tonga media hurt by new regulations - Kalafi Moala

Attempts by the Tonga Government to calm the anger over new media restrictions have failed.

The government recently quietly made public regulations that appear to target media  freedom, whistle blowers and anyone not supporting their viewpoint.

The Pacific Freedom Forum calls them real threats to real media.

It says the regulations threatens the public's right to know.

Earlier this week the chief executive of the Communications ministry, Paula Ma'u said the new regulations were focussed on broadcast media and were old rules that had had their penalties reduced.

But our correspondent, Kalafi Moala, told Don Wiseman that's irrelevant.
