The independence question has again been raised in French Polynesia.
A French possession since 1842, it marked its autonomy last week as a so-called overseas country within the republic.
Now, the erstwhile main defender of France's interest in the region Gaston Flosse wants to change French Polynesia status to become a sovereign state.
