A Fijian academic says those demanding the retention of formal or standard Hindi in the education system don't understand the value of Fiji Hindi.
Fiji University's professor of language and literature, Raman Subramani, says Fiji Hindi is the mother tongue of all Indo Fijians and it should be celebrated and preserved.
He told Ben Robinson Drawbridge how the language came into being.
