Cook Islands Opposition MP Tamaiva Tuavera says if he becomes police minister the first thing he would push for is better pay for officers.
Mr Tuavera was named to the police portfolio in the new shadow Cabinet lineup announced last week by opposition Democratic Party leader, Tina Browne.
He told Don Wiseman he wants to see becoming a police officer as a real career pathway for young Cook Islanders.
