The economic hurdles confronting the PNG government

The Papua New Guinea economy has been in a fragile state for several years but are efforts to turn it around having an effect?

PNG is highly dependent on income from resource projects and when commodity prices slumped the country suffered.

The new government under Jame Marape brought in a tough budget late last year, which aimed to counter some of the flaws in the economy.

How successful has that been?

Don Wiseman put that question to the director of the Development Policy Centre at the Australian National University, Stephen Howes.
