Christmas Eve marks three years since Tevita Lokotui lost his leg in a tragic bus crash which claimed the lives of three people and injured dozens of others.
He was one of 53 members of a Tongan brass band onboard a chartered bus that crashed down a bank near Gisborne in 2016.
That crash cost Tevita, who was just 18 at the time, both his mobility and dream of playing rugby.
With the anniversary near, Indira Stewart went to check on how he was doing and found a young man who had turned his life around.
