A United Nations report has found that human development in the Pacific is advancing dramatically but unevenly in the region.

The report - Inequalities in Human Development in the 21st Century - was launched by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Colombia last week.

The development economist for UNDP Pacific, Mathew Johnson-Idan, says the Pacific and Asia lead the world in access to broadband internet and is gaining on more developed regions in life expectancy, education and access to healthcare.

But Mr Johnson-Idan says the region continues to grapple with widespread complex poverty and may be vulnerable to inequalities in higher education and climate resilience.
