Awareness of the situation in West Papua and solidarity with its people seem to be stronger in New Zealand's Pacific communities than others.
About 50 mainly young Pacific activists flew the Morning Star flag at Parliament on Monday to mark the 58th anniversary of the declaration of West Papuan independence.
The event was promoted by south island based activists Plights of the Pacific.
