Australia's medevac repeal 'unconscionable and cruel'

From , 6:05 am on 5 December 2019

The Australian government's repeal of the medevac laws is unconscionable and cruel, says a lawyer for refugees.

The laws gave doctors more power to order the transfer of sick refugees to Australia from offshore detention in Nauru and Papua New Guinea.

They were cancelled by the passage of the government's so-called medevac repeal bill yesterday in the Senate.

The executive director of Melbourne's Refugee Legal, David Manne, told Ben Robinson-Drawbridge the government has repealed laws that were working well.
