Marshalls' Opposition poised to win election

From , 6:00 am on 26 November 2019

The Marshall Islands incumbent president, Hilda Heine, has retained her seat, but risks losing several key supporters after a fiery election.

Counting was still happening over the weekend but preliminary results show Dr Heine has lost at least five supporters.

Our correspondent in Majuro, Giff Johnson, says it's not clear if new MPs will support the incumbent retaining the presidency.

He told Mackenzie Smith the election is also a tight race for the former parliamentary speaker Kenneth Kedi, who is down one vote against opponent Tonton Kendall.
