Vanuatu media director confident he can return to country

Vanuatu media director, Dan McGarry, is confident he will soon be re-united with his family in Vanuatu.

Mr McGarry, who is in charge of the Daily Post newspaper, was barred from re-entering the country when he went to Brisbane airport to catch a flight to Port Vila on Saturday.

This is the latest development after his application for a work permit extension was rejected.

He is appealing the decision.

Mr McGarry says the government had not renewed his permit after his paper raised concerns at the growing level of Chinese influence in Vanuatu, but the government claims it's because the paper should be led by a ni-Vanuatu.

He spoke with Don Wiseman about what has happened since he and his spouse travelled to Australia.
