The Cook Islands Democratic Party says the teaching of Cook Islands Māori could be the way to re-populate the outer islands.

It has made an announcement that it would commit government funds to foster the language and culture support on the island of Atiu, where a by-election is due to be held.

Party leader, Tina Browne, told Don Wiseman more about the plan.
