Solomons delegation met with hostility in Malaita over China switch

From , 5:00 am on 8 November 2019

A Solomon Islands government delegation conducting talks in Malaita Province this week has been met with hostility over the lack of consultation around its diplomatic switch from Taiwan to China in September.

Led by deputy prime minister, Manasseh Maelanga, their intention was to talk about the government's development plans for the province and the country.

But the director of government communications, George Herming, who is part of the delegation, told Koroi Hawkins the Malaita Provincial government was intent on talking about the implications for Malaita in terms of the Solomons new relationship with Beijing.
