Late plea to PNG govt for clarity on plastic bag ban

From , 6:02 am on 4 November 2019

Papua New Guinea businesses have complained about a lack of clarity from the government over an imminent ban on plastic bags

The Conservation and Environmental Protection Authority has said a ban on manufacture, import and use of single-use plastic bags was to begin by November.

But the Manufacturers Council of PNG says there has been no change in PNG laws to effect the ban from Friday, 1 November.

The council's CEO, Chey Schovell says the Authority, or CEPA, has not responded to repeated calls to meet and discuss how the ban will work.
