Vanuatu looks to World Court over big polluters - climate expert

From , 6:02 am on 17 October 2019

Vanuatu's quest to hold polluters to account could lie with the International Court of Justice (ICJ), a leading climate scientist says.

Vanuatu's Foreign Minister Ralph Regenvanu last year said his government was considering legal action against fossil fuel corporations and countries.

In September, Vanuatu invited legal experts from around the world to discuss possible avenues for the lawsuit.

Columbia Law School professor Michael Gerrard was at the event, and told Mackenzie Smith efforts are focused on the ICJ, also known as the World Court.
