Fiji's opposition is calling on the government to hold a national summit to address what it calls the country's economic decline.

The National Federation Party leader, Professor Biman Prasad, says a recent World Bank economic outlook report suggests the economy is in trouble.

Mr Prasad was speaking at the Social Cohesion Dialogue last week and says Fijians should brace for a difficult economic environment as the high cost of living increases.

He told Christine Rovoi that there has been no rise in income for many years, and warns of cuts in social welfare and essential services.
