Tuvalu church groups buy land in Auckland

From , 6:01 am on 14 October 2019

Two Tuvalu church groups have purchased land in Auckland to support people leaving their homeland because of climate change.

The construction of a new hall for the ex-pat Tuvaluan community is nearly complete on one of the sections in West Auckland next to an existing church building.

Apiseka Ielu is a retired social worker and former deputy leader of the Auckland Tuvalu Society.

She told Jenny Meyer since arriving in New Zealand in the 1990s she's worked to help Tuvaluans live good lives as they adjust to their adopted home.
