Lack of opportunity blamed for crime increase in PNG

Lack of opportunities for a burgeoning population has been linked with an apparent increase in crime in Papua New Guinea's capital.

Last week, two people were killed in a clash between police and residents at Port Moresby's Erima settlement.

The violence was sparked after police went to the settlement to follow up on complaints about tuck shops illegally selling alcohol.
