A new kava tissue culture laboratory - a world first - is expected to bring Fijian kava to the forefront of the export market.
The Fiji Kava Limited facility opened in Levuka last week and company founder Zane Yoshida says it will standardise and improve the quality of kava there.
He says with increased demand in Europe and the United States, Fiji must explore every opportunity to protect kava as a true Fijian product.
Mr Yoshida says the mass production of disease-free kava plants with desirable traits will be taking place at the lab.
