Tonga gets first public library

From , 5:02 am on 2 September 2019

As New Zealand celebrates Tongan Language week with a Tongan Perspective of Enriching Aotearoa, New Zealand, Tonga is preparing to open its first ever public library this month - and it's taken a village across both countries to build it.

Thousands of books have been donated by more than 50 Auckland Council libraries among the hundreds of other items given by other generous New Zealanders including bikes, laptops and more.

It's the brainchild of South Auckland couple Kahoa and Benny Corbett.

Indira Stewart visited them as they packed up a shipment of donated goods on its way to the town of Kolovai, where the library is located.
