The quest to restock a remote Bougainville library

From , 3:00 pm on 27 August 2019

Takuu or Mortlock Island is one of the most remote places in Papua New Guinea's autonomous region of Bougainville.

It is more than 250 kilometres east of Buka - the main town in Bougainville.

Takuu is an atoll and has experienced some of the most damaging effects of the climate crisis.

Not least, in 2010, when a king tide swept away the island's library, which had been a vital feature of the community since the 1960s.

David Marena, who represents Takuu in Buka, told Don Wiseman about the work to re-establish the library.
