NZ and Aust encouraged to address Pacific drug addiction

From , 3:04 pm on 31 July 2019

A Pacific research security group says while New Zealand is pouring money into surveillance to fight drug smuggling in the region it is failing to support the islanders affected.

The managing director of Strategika Group Asia Pacific Jose Sousa-Santos says crime syndicates are growing across the region and the authorities are being "knocked off balance and on the retreat".

The security analyst says even more concerning are the people caught in addiction.

He tells Christine Rovoi that by putting resources into law enforcement New Zealand is only addressing the threat not helping the people on the ground.
