A Samoan-New Zealander has had her graduate film project selected as a finalist in the New Zealand International Film Festival's Best Short Film Competition.
Esther Mauga's dark and brooding tale Our Father - Lo Matou Tamā tah-MAH is among six films selected by the Oscar winning film-maker Dame Jane Campion.
The confronting family drama draws heavily on her own life experience and focuses on two afakasi sisters and their Samoan grandmother, moving between the palagi and Samoan world views.
Esther Mauga spoke with Dominic Godfrey about the film and being recognised by Jane Campion.
