PNG tackles polio and measles

Papua New Guinea is stepping up its vaccination programme in the fight against polio and measles, hoping to reach over a million children under five years old.

New Prime Minister James Marape gave a two year old child a dose of the oral polio vaccine at Angau Hospital in Lae last week in a move to boost awareness.

The current three week measles-rubella and polio campaign is part of a larger response after a polio outbreak in June 2018 that saw 25 cases and one death.

The World Health Organisation's representative in PNG, Dr Luo Dapeng, spoke to Jenny Meyer from the PNG Highlands where he is leading the programme.
