Pangu Pati disarray surfaces amid cracks in PNG's government

From , 3:01 pm on 26 April 2019

Major strains are again surfacing within Papua New Guinea's oldest political party, the Pangu Pati.

The party's leader, Finance Minister Sam Basil, was recently expelled from the party by its executive which fell out with the Bulolo MP after he took the party into government in 2017.

Mr Basil has begun registering a new party, but the Pangu executive is urging other Pangu MPs not to leave with him.

It comes as the coalition goverment of prime minister Peter O'Neill is struggling to contain instability.

Johnny Blades has been following the political ruminations and gave Don Wiseman this update.
