Former PNG chief justice: Cancel seabed mining licenses

From , 5:04 am on 18 March 2019

Papua New Guinea's former chief justice wants the government to cancel sea bed mining licenses given to the company Nautilus.

The company's Canadian parent has been granted protection from its creditors while it restructures, which Sir Arnold Amet says will lead to it selling the licenses.

Last year, groups opposed to mining launched legal action to see the licenses but the court is not releasing its decision.

Ben Robinson Drawbridge spoke to Sir Arnold, who says money the government used to buy 15 percent of Nautilus could be lost.
