Court proceedings into PNG's Rabaul Queen disaster re-open

Court proceedings have been reopened into Papua New Guinea's deadliest maritime disaster.

The Rabaul Queen inter-island ferry capsized and sank off Finschafen seven years ago with an official death toll of 172, although some think it's higher.

After the ship owner and captain were cleared of manslaughter charges in 2017, the public prosecutor discontinued proceedings.

However, the public solicitor has commenced civil negligence procedings for which he is calling survivors and the victims' families to come forward.

PNG's Attorney General Davis Steven told Dominic Godfrey about the proceedings.
