The appointment of Tessa Te Mata as New Zealand's High Commissioner-designate to the Cook Islands has been welcomed by the Pacific community in Aotearoa.
She's not only the first woman of Pacific ancestry to a head mission in a Pacific post, she is also the first New Zealand High Commissioner of Cook Islands descent in the post.
