From , 5:03 am on 5 February 2019

Unemployed Pacific people living in regional New Zealand are the target of a new programme to help them find education and work.

The government will give about $US6 million to expand the Pacific Employment Support Scheme into regions like Hawke's Bay, Manawatu, Otago and Southland.

It's currently only based in Auckland and Hamilton.

New Zealand's Pacific People's Minister, Aupito William Sio, told Jenny Meyer the eligible age range will also be expanded to include people under the age of 39 who aren't earning or learning.
