Environmentalists want Japan to drop plans to discharge what they say is more than a million tonnes of highly contaminated water into the Pacific.
Greenpeace warns a nuclear water crisis at the Fukushima Plant has been worsened by technical failures and flawed decision-making by the Japanese Government and the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO).
Greenpeace's Shaun Burnie spoke with Christine Rovoi about the threat.
An official at the Japanese Embassy in Wellington did not respond to a request for an interview.
But the official said in a statement that the government has denied the Greenpeace report, saying tests carried out on the nuclear water last year showed a value below the detection contamination rate.
