A Papua New Guinea social commentator says the country has got to take a new approach to the way it deals with drink and drug issues.
Martyn Namorong says taking a punitive approach is usually counter productive and a more enlightened approach is what is is needed.
There have regularly been bans on the sale of alcohol and bans on the sale of yeast to deny homebrewers a key ingredient.
Mr Namorong told Don Wiseman that PNG has a problem with drink and drugs, both legal and illicit, but there are better ways to deal with it.
