It remains unclear whether PNG's government or the country's main electricity provider will throw their full support behind a major proposed coal development.
Australian company Mayur Resources has an environmental permit to mine in Gulf Province, and for a coal-fired power plant in Lae.
Energy minister Sam Basil supports the project, saying it would reduce reliance on imports and create cheaper energy.
But the group Nogat Coal PNG, says it would pollute and harm local communities, and goes against global moves to counter climate change.
Its representative Christian Lohberger spoke to Johnny Blades, who asked where Mayur's plans are at.
