Tongan Speaker talks about future of House with NZ MPs

Tonga's Parliamentary Speaker has visited New Zealand to look at ways House procedures can be improved and to discuss the rebuild of Parliament after the historic buildings were destroyed in February's Cyclone Gita.

Lord Fakafanua met with a number of parliamentary staff and discussed how to build a modern and fit-for-purpose parliament.

He also met with his New Zealand counterpart Trevor Mallard as well as the Maori Affairs select committee, the Minister for Pacific Peoples and other MPs.

Fakafanua was afforded the rare opporutnity of joining Mr Mallard on the floor of the House during question time.
 
He told Koro Vaka'uta that Mr Mallard had initiated his trip.
