IFC looks to foster corporate bond market in PNG

From , 6:01 am on 17 December 2018

The International Finance Corporation, the IFC, together with Australia and New Zealand is helping to develop a corporate debt market in Papua New Guinea.

The IFC, which is part of the World Bank Group, says there are a significant number of large investors in PNG that are highly liquid, heavily invested in government bonds and looking for opportunities to diversify their investments.

The IFC's representative for PNG, John Vivian, says if there was a functioning corporate bond market these investors would have the opportunity to take only a part of a company's debt in a standardized and transparent environment.

Don Wiseman spoke with a senior financial sector specialist for the IFC, Aaron Levine, and began by asking him to explain what corporate bonds are.
