Opposition says AG behaviour shows contempt for Fiji's people

The leader of one of Fiji's opposition parties says the Attorney General is showing utter contempt for the people of Fiji with actions to avoid receiving notice of challenges to the authenticity of the current government.

Biman Prasad the leader of the National Federation Party is one of several petitioners questioning the outcome of Fiji's general election in November.

Dr Prasad told Jenny Meyer why he and the other petitioners decided to challenge the election outcome and outlined his thoughts on the government's efforts to avoid scrutiny.

Biman Prasad says next court session is due on Monday.

Attorney General and Acting Prime Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, has denied avoidance behavioiur, saying he was holding a two day pre-planned strategic meeting with his cabinet.

The Fiji Electoral Office says it has received the challenges and is working with the Solicitor General to prepare its legal response, with election materials remaining under police guard until the courts have resolved the matter.
