A New Zealand charity is focusing on changing the diets of New Zealand's Pasifika people whose lives are being cut short by unhealthy eating.

The New Zealand Heart Foundation has celebrated the recent graduation of 26 students from a course in Pacific nutrition, saying they'll be pivotal in helping communities make better food choices.

Latest statistics show one in three Pacific people dying from heart disease are aged between 35 and 65, compared to one in 12 pakeha.

Pacific Health Manager for the New Zealand Health Foundation , Mafi Funaki-Tahifote, told Koro Vaka'uta it is a serious matter that Pasifka are dying much younger.
