Pacific language learn to read books win NZ award

A series of books designed to help young Pacific children learn to read won an award last week at the SunPix Pacific Peoples Awards in Auckland.

The 'Pasifika dual language resources' series launched in 2016 and is a collection of flip-books with stories in either Cook Islands Māori, Tuvaluan, Tokelauan, Tongan or Samoan and then translated into English on the other side of the book.

Ellen MacGregor-Reid from New Zealand's Ministry of Education spoke with Jenny Meyer about the how the colourful language books are helping children from Pacific families learn to read.
